[glow=orange,2,300] [shadow=yellow,left,300]Sunsetstar [/shadow][/glow] Sunsetstar lead Sanddune, Swiftpaw, Serpentpaw and Feathersong on the Windclan patrol. He ran swiftly over the rocks. He jumped and leaped and ran. He loved the feeling of the wind in his fur. He hoped Swiftpaw would behave. He started up the rocks, they were almost there. When they were there, Sunsetstar asked Swiftpaw a question. "Anything odd smelling Swiftpaw?".[glow=beige,2,300] Sanddune [/glow] Sanddune wondered why he was chosen for a patrol. He hardley did. His apprentice was at his side. Sanddune decieded to test and push him. He began running very fast. He kept looking back, wondering if he could keep up. |

Serpentpaw was excited to be training with his newly appointed mentor already.He kept up easily,but then his mentor started to go faster.He ran his fastest in order to catch up to him.This tom was going to work him hard.Good thought Serpentpaw.I need a strong mentor.He pushed himself and ran ahead of Sanddune.He looked back and tripped over a twig and landed with a loud thud.Oh great.He thought,I did it again.So much for a good first impression.He stood up and waited for them to catch up.

He nodded his head towdards Sanddune, who was now his mentor.[glow=beige,2,300] Sanddune [/glow] Sanddune nodded his head back to his leader. 'Poor Swiftpaw', He thought, 'It dosn't look like Sunsetstar trys to give him a chance. How can he have faith in himself, if his mentor dosn't'. Sanddune was impressed of how Serpentpaw kept up with him. He turned to his apprentice. "Serpentpaw, do you smell anything odd or unsuall? What can you sent". |

Serpentpaw stood up and scented the air.He really wanted to impress them.As far as he could scent,he thought he smelt a Windclan cat,a vole and rabbit and the river."I think i can smell a windclan cat and prey by the water."He hoped he was right.He wanted to make his new metor proud.He also wanted to know why Swiftpaw was being unusually quiet.He ususally would have been arguing with his fellow apprentice by now,but it was like for once he did not care.

Sanddune nodded his head to his apprentice. "There was a Windclan cat here a little while earlier. Because the sent is some what fresh but not all of the way. He/she was probably chasing a rabbit. But they didn't step over our boarders. Good job Serpentpaw", Sanddune nodded to him. His apprentice was doing great so far.

SkyClan Apprentice [/u][/b][/right] Swiftpaw was only quiet because he kept glaring at Serpentpaw. GRRR... GET OUT OF MY LIFE! Serpentpaw always seemed to be better at everything. Serpentpaw ran off, and tripped. Swiftpaw broke out in laughter. He actually fell to the ground. The apprentice had tripped over a twig! Finally, after a few moments, Swiftpaw got to his feet a smile still to his face.
Swiftpaw's smile disappeared when Serpentpaw was asked the question that his mentor was going to ask him! He wanted to shout, "I'm your only apprentice now! Remember?" When Serpentpaw answered, Swiftpaw could only glare. When Sanddune praised Serpentpaw, every hair on his back rose. "Well, I smell a rabbit!" he said trying to make himself heard. He just hoped the way he said it didn't sound too funny. ;;Feathersong;;
SkyClan Medicine Cat [/u][/b][/right] Feathersong followed behind, collecting bits of marigold that grew along here. She listened to the conversation only slightly. She didn't want to get involved in the obvious competition between the two young apprentices. Why couldn't they just get along? |

Serpentpaw heard Swiftpaw and could feel his eyes staring into his pelt.His fur stood on end.He quickly made it lay flat and stared back at Swiftpaw and scented the air."I dont smell any rabbits around here.Are you sure Swiftpaw?"He glared at him as if to say what are you going to do know.Serpentpaw wasnt very friendly with Swiftpaw but he wished that the younger cat would stop trying to make him look like a fool.He would gladly be friends if only Swiftpaw would stop thinking that the whole world was against him.He looked to the other cats."Does anyone else scent a rabbit?"He didnt want to make this a fight but if he wanted to try him,then Serpentpaw was not going to back down.

SkyClan Medicine Cat [/i][/u][/right] Feathersong looked at Serpentpaw and Swiftpaw. It was obvious Swiftpaw was trying to beat Serpentpaw in the smelling contest. She didn't want to get involved, especially as to who would win this small battle between the toms, but she sniffed the air anyway. Different scents wafted to her nose, but not one of them was rabbit, despite being so close to WindClan Borders. "I think Serpentpaw is right, Swiftpaw," she added. "I can't smell any rabbit. Are you sure?" She looked questioningly at Swiftpaw. Her gaze seemed to send a ton of questions at once, What is with your contest between Serpentpaw? Are you sure you smell rabbit? What happened between you two? What are you going to do now? >>Swiftpaw>>
SkyClan Apprentice [/i][/u][/right] Swiftpaw forced back the growl that lay in his throat. He couldn't growl at Serpentpaw in public, in front of the leader, but later definitely. His gaze changed to Feathersong. What!? he was thinking. I thought you would side with me! Or at least not side at all! You can't side with that stupid, mangy furball! He wished he could voice his thoughts aloud, but that would definitely bring some punishment.
Swiftpaw pouted. "I know there's a rabbit! I'll go find it right now!" Without scenting the air, he dashed off into a nearby clump of trees. Once alone, his comfort level returned. His heart stopped beating quite so fast, and his voice wasn't shaky. As he scented the air, he found he had been wrong. There had been no rabbit after all. I guess I'll just have to find one. There's no way I'm going back empty-pawed. |

Serpentpaw was glad that Feathersong had agreed with him,because he was right and there were no rabbits around here. The look that Swiftpaw gave him said that he was less than pleased and Serpentpaw was not surprised when he declared that he was right again, but what did surprise him was that he dashed off. Without thinking he followed right after him. He did not like the small cat wandering off by himself, especially not so close to the boarder. He wondered what he should say to the cat now that they were momentarily alone."Hey Swiftpaw, i know that you were just trying to beat me for some reason, but you should not wander off like that. A Windclan patrol might see you and take advantage.What`s your problem with me anyway?"He hoped that the cat could talk to him without fighting.

Why can't he just leave me alone!? Serpentpaw started to talk. He felt so uncomfortable around others. Why was he part of SkyClan anyway when he thought he could do so well on his own? He tried to glare at Serpentpaw, but it didn't come out as mean as he wanted it to. He just looked sad and useless. "You were right. There's no rabbit." He sighed as he admitted he was wrong, which he hated to do. "Look, first you steal my mentor, then he starts to praise you more than he does me. Sunsetstar just ignores me, and asks you all the questions. He should have given me Sanddune. He obviously likes you better." He glared at nothing as the painful memories were brought back. Tears threatened to break. "Not to mention you're so much better than me. I don't blame Sunsetstar for liking you more because I suck."Swiftpaw looked up. One tear escaped and he silently scolded it for going. "Why can't you just leave me alone?" Swiftpaw dropped his head, turned towards the direction of camp, and started to walk, slowly, away.[/center] ((Swiftpaw is such a sad kitty.  )) |

Serpentpaw felt really sorry for the tabby, but he knew that if Swiftpaw was depressed there was not really much he could say to help. He tried anyway."Look Swiftpaw, I never tried to act better than you or make you look bad. I am only doing what i am told, and frankly you always ditch your duties or freak out. Sunsetstar likes everyone equally. He is probably just paying more attention to me because you are younger. Oh and he had to be my mentor for a little while because he did not have one picked yet. It was never anything against you." He knew that what he had said was for the most part true.

Swiftpaw hesitated in his reply. He wanted to argue, especially against the part of ditching his dutes or freaking out, but it was all true. Much as he hated to admit it, it was all true. He only freaked out because of his constant fear of being around cats, and he ditched so he didn't have to worry about freaking out. He turned around, and looked at Serpentpaw for a minute. Scratches were still visible from their previous fight. The one that stood out to Swiftpaw the most was the one he had inflicted above Serpentpaw's eye. Swiftpaw wouldn't be surprised if his scratches were still visible too. "Well..." he started. "I'm sorry." He wanted to say something more, but that was all that would come out, at least without tears. His eyes showed his sincereness in his apology. |

Sunsetstar Sunsetstar sighed. He looked at his apprentice, and then to the others. "Its ok that he made a mistake. All great cats in training and warriors make mistakes". He nodded to Swiftpaw. Sanddune Sanddune looked away and then back again. He was becoming agrovated. 'That apprentice is trying way to hard', Sanddune thought. "Hey Swiftpaw, dude calm down". He noticed how the little guy looked. 'Poor little guy', he thought, 'I reamber feeling that way'. "Its fine. It was an accident. No one blames yah". |
